US becomes India's top LPG supplier in July as Gulf shipments fall amid Hormuz tensions

The United States has emerged as India's largest LPG supplier in July 2025, accounting for 73% of India's LPG imports, up sharply from just 12% in January. The shift follows disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which reduced supplies from Gulf nations. UAE, which had supplied 826,000 tonnes in January, saw its exports to India fall significantly, while Kuwait's shipments dropped 43% from June to just 33,000 tonnes. Qatar supplied only 19,000 tonnes during the same period. The dramatic reversal highlights how regional conflict risks are reshaping India's energy import strategy.
