Mariska Hargitay Helped Fund Testing of Detroit Rape Kits, Leading to 263 Convictions

Actress Mariska Hargitay helped back an effort to test 11,341 sexual assault evidence kits found in a Detroit police warehouse in 2009. The kits had gone untested for years, and some of the cases dated back to 1984. The project, led by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, had produced 263 convictions as of April 2025. Investigations connected to the initiative are still ongoing across the United States.

Private donor funds €1.4m restoration of Pompeii's grandest house

A private sponsor has financed a €1.4 million restoration of the House of Marcus Fabius Rufus in Pompeii. Part of the property is expected to be open to guided tour groups by Christmas. The building has deteriorated substantially since it was closed in 1980 following a volcanic eruption. The work aims to repair that damage and improve the visitor experience.
