How Adding Memory to an AP Agent Stopped It from Forgetting Vendor History

A developer built VendorSense, an accounts payable agent that processes invoices but originally forgot all vendor context after each session, causing repeated unnecessary escalations. To fix this, the developer integrated Hindsight, a recall-and-retain memory layer that feeds the agent relevant past decisions before it reasons about a new invoice. The system extracts key invoice fields, queries Hindsight for prior vendor experiences using natural-language retrieval, and only writes new memories back after a human has reviewed and confirmed a decision. This approach means the agent's decision rules stay constant, but its behavior improves as its evidence base grows from real human approvals. The result is a system that progressively auto-processes familiar vendors while still routing genuinely novel cases to human reviewers.
