India imported a record 2.8 million barrels of Russian crude oil per day in July, the highest level since the Ukraine war began. Russian crude accounted for more than half of India's total crude oil purchases that month. Indian refiners also stepped up purchases from West Asian producers as flows through the Strait of Hormuz returned to normal.
