Guwahati Imposes Rs 25,000 Fine to Curb Drain Blockages and Flooding

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has introduced a fine of Rs 25,000 for anyone found blocking drains in the city. Mayor Mrigen Sarania stated that obstructed drains have become one of the leading causes of artificial flooding across several parts of Guwahati. The measure is aimed at discouraging residents and entities from dumping waste or encroaching on drainage infrastructure. Authorities hope the penalty will serve as a strong deterrent and help reduce recurring waterlogging in the city.
