Farooq Abdullah praises Kashmir hotel boom for jobs and tourism growth

Senior National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah has lauded the rapid expansion of hotels in Kashmir, noting the significant improvement in accommodation options for tourists. He recalled a time when visitors had so few lodging choices that some were forced to sleep in taxis. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also praised the hospitality sector, recognising hotels as contributors to peace and economic development in the region. However, Sinha noted that several hotels had violated key construction regulations during their development. The growth of the hotel industry has been highlighted for its role in generating local employment opportunities across the valley.

Political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have appealed to the United Nations and Prime Minister Modi to intervene following reported killings in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistani security forces allegedly opened fire on civilians, leaving more than two dozen people dead.
