In 2012, an Idaho man built a single bunk bed in his garage, sparking what would become a large-scale volunteer movement. The initiative, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, has since grown to more than 400 chapters across the United States and Canada. Over 14 years, the organization has built and distributed 396,000 beds to children who lacked a proper place to sleep. Volunteers also participate in a program called Bunks Across America, which coordinates larger-scale building efforts. The movement continues to expand its reach, driven entirely by community volunteers committed to ensuring every child has a bed.
