Government to Supply Maharashtra Onions at Rs 35/kg Across Delhi-NCR

Onion retail prices have surged sharply, with the all-India average reaching Rs 43.53 per kg as of August 24, a 59 percent rise compared to Rs 27.37 per kg during the same period last year. To provide relief to consumers, a dedicated supply initiative called the Kanda Express is being launched to bring onions from Maharashtra to Delhi-NCR. The onions will be made available at a subsidised rate of Rs 35 per kg, undercutting the current market average. The move is aimed at easing the burden of rising vegetable prices on households in the national capital region.
