Google upgrades WeatherNext AI model for sharper, more accurate forecasts

Google has announced an updated AI weather forecasting model called WeatherNext 3, designed to deliver improved accuracy in predicting precipitation such as rain and snow. The new model produces global weather maps at five times the resolution of its predecessor, according to the company. It achieves this by learning from real-time weather observations rather than relying solely on the datasets most other AI weather models use. Google Research engineer Samier Merchant highlighted that moving beyond conventional training data is a key advancement of the new system. The announcement was made by Google as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance AI-driven meteorological tools.
