Galapagos Islands rid of 140,000 invasive goats in $10.5M conservation effort

More than 140,000 invasive goats have been successfully eradicated from three regions of the Galapagos Islands in a large-scale ecological operation. The project, which cost $10.5 million, was designed to restore natural habitats and protect the archipelago's native wildlife. Conservationists used specially tagged 'judas goats' fitted with transmitters to track and locate remaining invasive animals. With the goats removed, indigenous plant life has begun to recover and flourish across the affected areas. Ongoing monitoring and protective measures are in place to sustain the ecological recovery.
