FSSAI Bans Artificial Rum and Whisky Flavouring in Neutral Spirits

India's food safety regulator FSSAI has banned the practice of adding rum or whisky flavourings to neutral alcohol. The move comes after manufacturers were found artificially replicating the taste of premium spirits using flavouring substances rather than traditional base ingredients. Several companies, including United Spirits, received prohibitions and regulatory notices over the practice. FSSAI stated that the characteristic flavour of alcoholic beverages must develop naturally through their original ingredients. The regulator said the earlier practice misled consumers about the true nature of the products they were purchasing.
