Developers using Claude Code AI have reported incidents where the tool accidentally deleted user files and projects. A DEV Community contributor recommends implementing three protective layers to prevent such data loss. The layers include an OS-level sandbox to restrict writes, pre-execution hooks to block dangerous commands, and git checkpoints for easy recovery. These measures address vulnerabilities where AI-generated commands might execute destructive operations like recursive deletions or database drops. The setup aims to maintain productivity while adding essential safeguards against accidental data destruction.
