France Heat Wave Deaths Rise to 2,000+, Doubling Initial Estimates

France recorded a 29% surge in deaths during its record-breaking heat wave, according to Public Health France. The updated figures, still considered incomplete, more than doubled the agency's initial preliminary estimate of at least 1,000 additional deaths. The earlier estimate had been based on data from only three of the most extreme heat days.
