Florida deploys 3M lbs of concrete pipes to create three artificial reefs near Destin

Florida has sunk approximately three million pounds of recycled concrete pipes into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Destin-Fort Walton Beach. The project establishes three new artificial reef structures designed to serve as underwater habitats for marine life. These reefs are expected to support local fisheries by providing shelter and breeding grounds for various species. The initiative also strengthens Florida's Coastal Corridor program by connecting key marine ecosystems along the coastline. Charter boat operators, recreational fishermen, and scuba divers are among those expected to benefit from the expanded reef network.
