Mexican social enterprise EcoDom has developed a system that converts discarded plastic waste into durable building panels used to construct homes. Over the past three years, the initiative has resulted in 500 rooms being built for low-income families across Mexico. The project simultaneously addresses two critical issues: plastic pollution and the shortage of affordable housing. Informal waste collectors are also benefiting from the program through improved pricing arrangements for the materials they gather. Despite his efforts, the project was never brought to completion. Two subsequent owners also attempted to develop the estate but similarly failed to finish it. The long-stalled property remains one of the region's most notable unfinished real estate projects.
