State-run fuel retailers bleed Rs 5/litre loss as crude crosses $100/barrel

India's government-owned fuel retailers are incurring significant losses on every litre of petrol and diesel sold, following a sharp rise in global crude oil prices beyond $100 per barrel. The country is heavily dependent on imported crude, with over 88% of its oil needs met through foreign purchases. Despite the surge in international prices, domestic retail prices of petrol and diesel have not been revised in more than three months. The freeze on fuel prices has widened the gap between procurement costs and selling prices, deepening losses for state-run oil marketing companies.

Type 59 Tank Explosion Kills Two Bangladesh Army Soldiers During Live-Fire Drill

A Chinese-origin Type 59 tank exploded during a live-fire military exercise in Hathazari, Chattogram, Bangladesh. The blast killed two soldiers of the Bangladesh Army and left one officer critically injured. The wounded officer was airlifted to a military hospital in Dhaka to receive advanced medical care. Bangladesh Army authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.

India's First Bullet Train Shell Built, Track Tests Set for Mid-2027

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the first body frame of India's indigenous bullet train has been completed and dispatched for a squeeze test. Speaking at the 'NaMo for Viksit Bharat' event in Vadodara, he stated that the train is expected to begin track testing by May or June 2027. Following a testing phase of two to four months, the bullet train is slated for an official inauguration. Vaishnaw added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally inaugurate the project upon completion of trials.
