He traps the sick animals and transports them to Walden's Puddle Wildlife Center, where they receive professional care. In August alone, Vandiver accumulated 234 volunteer hours dedicated to this effort. His work has helped numerous foxes recover and be released back into the wild. California secures 640 acres in San Bernardino County to safeguard Joshua tree habitat

California's Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has acquired 640 acres of land northwest of Pioneertown in San Bernardino County to protect western Joshua tree habitat. The acquisition was completed on August 24 using funds from the Western Joshua Tree Conservation Fund. The land is located in a desert region where western Joshua trees are a prominent part of the ecosystem. Researchers have identified the area as highly likely to remain a suitable habitat for the species in the future, making its conservation strategically significant.
