Developer patches COSMIC desktop to add 5x5 wrapping workspace grid on Pop!_OS

A developer has patched System76's COSMIC compositor on Pop!_OS to replace its default linear workspace strip with a navigable 5×5 grid. The modification covers two components — cosmic-comp and cosmic-workspaces — both pinned to specific versions and maintained on a branch called cosmic-grid. Workspaces are arranged using row-major indexing over an existing flat array, meaning the underlying workspace model required no fundamental rewrite. Four-finger swipes move the user north, south, east, or west across the grid, which wraps at the edges and always opens at the center cell on login. A backup-and-hold install script ensures the patch can be fully reversed with a single command if a system update risks overwriting the changes.
