Developer Builds Open-Source Framework to Keep AI Coding Assistants on Project Rules

A developer grew frustrated with AI coding tools like Cursor and Windsurf repeatedly ignoring project guidelines, such as architecture standards and testing requirements, after initial setup. To address this, they built the Guardian Engineering Framework (GEF), an open-source project generator that embeds engineering rules directly into a project's structure. GEF is initialized via a single command, 'npx create-gef', and automatically configures workflows like GitHub Flow along with technical governance documentation. The framework is designed to guide AI assistants to follow consistent processes, including writing Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), rather than acting purely as code generators. GEF is IDE-agnostic and publicly available on both GitHub and NPM.
