Developer adds Together AI fine-tuning support to open-source DSPy framework

A developer contributed their first open-source feature by building a Together AI fine-tuning provider for DSPy, a framework that automates prompt engineering for language models. Before this addition, DSPy users who wanted to fine-tune models on Together AI had to do so manually outside the framework and reconnect the result themselves. The new provider handles the entire fine-tuning workflow — data validation, file upload, job submission, status polling, and model retrieval — as a single integrated step. Together AI is a widely used, cost-effective platform for fine-tuning open-source models such as Llama, making the integration practically valuable for many DSPy users. The contribution highlights a key architectural distinction in AI frameworks: inference and fine-tuning are separate processes requiring separate code, with each provider needing its own custom implementation.
