Delhi Bill proposes 2025 cut-off to expand slum rehabilitation eligibility

The Delhi government plans to introduce a bill that would shift the eligibility cut-off date for jhuggi-jhopri rehabilitation from 2006 to 2025, bringing more slum clusters under the redevelopment umbrella. The proposed change aims to widen the scope of resettlement efforts across the capital. Private companies and cooperative societies would be encouraged to participate in redevelopment projects under the new framework. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board would continue to oversee relocation and upgrading operations. Residents of qualifying settlements may also be given the option to contribute financially toward their new housing costs.
