Conservationists rescue 21 critically endangered Madeiran land snails from remote island

Zoo staff and conservationists have rescued a tiny population of Madeiran land snails from Bugio Island, a remote location in Portugal. Only 21 individuals of the near-extinct species were discovered clinging to a rock at the site. The rescue operation was carried out to protect the critically endangered snails from potential extinction. The snails will now be cared for under controlled conditions as part of conservation efforts to preserve the species.
