Climate Change Linked to Deadly Nepal-Tibet Debris Flood, Study Finds

A new study has linked human-caused climate change to a catastrophic cascading disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border. Approximately 2 square kilometres of rock and glacial ice broke away from Langtang Lirung at an altitude of around 5,150 metres, plunging nearly 1,400 metres. The collapse transformed into a fast-moving debris flood carrying water, rock, ice, and sediment. The torrent covered roughly 22 kilometres to reach Rasuwagadhi in just seven minutes, leaving downstream communities with virtually no time to evacuate.
