Cleveland Plans 200 New Homes to Revive Near-East Side After Decades of Decline

Cleveland's near-East Side has seen a dramatic population drop, shrinking from nearly 100,000 residents in the 1960s to fewer than 20,000 today. To address this decline, the city has launched its Housing Innovation District initiative, targeting the construction of 200 new homes in the area. The project is backed by $2 million in state funding to help kickstart development. Additionally, a tax increment financing plan has been proposed, which could raise up to $182 million over 30 years. Those funds would be directed toward infrastructure improvements including streets, sewers, and parks.
