CJP Opposes Criminal Cases for Protesters' Offensive Speech, Backs Civil Defamation Route

A party spokesperson argued that criminal justice proceedings should not be invoked against protesters for using objectionable or derogatory language. He suggested that those offended by such remarks should instead pursue civil defamation cases. The spokesperson also called on the younger generation to exercise caution in their choice of words. He urged police to exercise restraint and refrain from misusing their authority. The remarks came after Noida Police filed a Zero FIR against a woman over allegations of abusive language.
