CIA Releases Declassified Pre-9/11 Warnings About Bin Laden Sent to White House

The CIA has declassified intelligence briefings that were delivered to the White House years before the September 11 attacks. The documents date back to July 1998, more than three years before the 2001 attacks. Briefers at the time assessed that Osama bin Laden likely prioritized carrying out attacks on American soil. The intelligence also flagged his potential interest in deploying chemical and biological weapons. The declassification sheds new light on how much the US government knew about the al-Qaeda threat well in advance.
