Chinese AI model Kimi K3, developed by Moonshot AI, gained widespread attention after outperforming Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.5 in coding benchmarks. The strong reception caused a surge in demand that the company's GPU infrastructure could not support, prompting it to pause new subscriptions. This mirrors similar compute bottlenecks previously faced by OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, which also imposed sign-up freezes and usage limits during peak demand. To manage the situation, Moonshot AI is restructuring its membership plans. The company has also announced it will release Kimi K3's open weights on July 27.
