Building AI Agents Demands a New Product Mindset Beyond Traditional SDLC

A growing perspective in software development argues that building AI agent-based products requires a fundamentally different approach than traditional software delivery. Rather than designing features users manually interact with, agentic products are built to understand user intent and act on their behalf, with the ability to plan, self-correct, and recover from failures. Architects must now design across three layers — patterns and capabilities, behavior and runtime, and operations — going well beyond simply integrating a large language model.
