This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend. I built Stillroot, a quiet plant-care companion for my friend Rohan. I picked a small, everyday scenario for his gift: a few plants on a windowsill, a weekend away, and the question, “Will someone need to check the soil while I'm gone?” The pothos, monstera, and basil in the demo are imagined plants. The readings are synthetic, and the windowsill is a creative design premise. This is a working gift prototype; the next step is to put it in Rohan's hands and replace the sample assumptions with his actual routine.
In our benchmark, recovering a 1.5 GiB MemTable after a process crash took an average of 4.989 ms with CSPP crash-safe recovery versus 5987.152 ms with default SkipList/WAL replay—about 1200× faster. Process crash: abnormal process termination, including deliberate termination with kill -9 / abort; the operating system continues running, and its file page cache (PageCache) remains intact. Hardware power loss: the server hardware suddenly loses power, the operating system stops running, and in-memory state (including PageCache) is lost. The container orchestration system Kubernetes allows a def
A bookmarks service, in its classic form, is a list of links: a title, an address and a few labels. This time I needed more: MP3s and PDFs, like synthesized podcasts for studying and their handouts, to listen to and read again while keeping track of where I left off, to share with a few people and to keep away from everybody else. My bookmarks have been public since 1998, and the previous version, bookmarks-v3.0, was a static site generated by Jekyll and published on GitHub Pages: it cost nothing, and for a list of public links it was good enough. The criterion stayed the same, spending as lit
