Bombay HC slams BMC over two decades of pothole and open manhole neglect

The Bombay High Court has strongly criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for failing to address Mumbai's persistent pothole and open manhole problem, which has persisted for nearly two decades. Judges expressed serious concern over the civic body's inaction and called on it to adopt international road construction standards. The Thane Municipal Corporation was also reprimanded separately for delaying compensation to the family of a doctor who died due to an open manhole incident. The court made clear that concrete steps and greater accountability are required from both municipal bodies. The rulings signal mounting judicial pressure on civic authorities to urgently resolve long-standing urban infrastructure hazards.
