Bombay HC Orders Removal of Deepfake, Defamatory Posts Targeting Nitin Gadkari

The Bombay High Court has directed social media platforms to take down abusive and false content targeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The posts falsely connected Gadkari to the controversy surrounding ethanol-blended petrol. The court granted urgent interim relief to the minister, who had sought damages over fabricated deepfake videos and defamatory digital content. Questioning the absence of proactive systems to curb such material, the court also ordered platforms to share basic identifying information about the creators of the offending posts.
