BCI Chairman Manan Mishra refuses to resign amid Supreme Court plea seeking removal

Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Mishra has firmly refused to step down from his position, stating he was democratically elected and represents 25 lakh lawyers across the country. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking his removal from the post. Mishra, who claims to have served as BCI Chairman for 12 to 14 years, defended his continued tenure on the grounds of his electoral mandate. Lawyers demanding his resignation have also raised separate concerns, including the need for an Advocate Protection Act and opposition to a proposed hike in registration fees at State Bar Councils.
