Before the submersion, volunteers thoroughly cleaned the aircraft to ensure it was safe for the marine environment. The site, now called Xihwu Reef, has since evolved into a flourishing underwater ecosystem. Over a hundred different marine species now inhabit the repurposed aircraft, making it a notable example of environmental conservation through creative reuse.
