Vande Mataram, India's National Song, was performed at an international cricket match for the first time on Sunday. The historic moment took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi ahead of the first T20I between India and Afghanistan. Both teams were lined up on the field when the National Song was sung prior to the National Anthem. The occasion marked the start of a three-match T20I series between the two sides.

In 2012, conservation authorities relocated 28 Tasmanian devils to Maria Island, Australia, to protect the species from a deadly facial tumour disease. The initiative was considered a success as the devil population grew to as many as 90 individuals. However, subsequent wildlife surveys revealed a severe unintended consequence for the island's ecosystem. The little penguin colonies on Maria Island had completely vanished, with an estimated 3,000 breeding pairs lost. Experts attribute the disappearance of the penguins to the presence of the introduced devils.
