Supreme Court Declines to Stay Narayan Sai's Life Sentence in 2013 Rape Case

The Supreme Court of India has refused to suspend the life imprisonment sentence of Narayan Sai, son of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, in connection with a 2013 rape case. Sai had approached the top court seeking a stay on his life term while his appeal against the conviction remains pending. The court declined to grant the suspension of sentence at this stage. However, the bench granted Sai the liberty to return to the Supreme Court if his appeal is not decided within three months.
