hldays adds a source and verbatim quote to every holiday record

The third post in the hldays series explains how each holiday record is backed by a source, including a URL, a human reference, a verbatim quote, and a verification date. The author gives examples such as Alenquer's municipal holiday and Madeira's Autonomy Day, citing a regional decree. Records carry one of two statuses, verified or unverified, and a build-time check blocks deployment if a verified record lacks a URL and verification date. Official sources such as laws and government registries are required for verification, while news articles and Wikipedia serve only as leads. The post also notes that Portugal's 308 municipalities have no single official holiday list, so the data was collected in several passes.

Agent Buys Live Akash Compute With 11 USDC After Bridging From Base Via Osmosis

An AI agent that trades and sells API calls spent about 11 USDC to buy real cloud infrastructure, moving funds from Base through Osmosis and then to the Akash network. The transfer used a bridge, an Osmosis swap, an IBC transfer, and a burn-and-mint step to acquire escrow tokens, producing a live mainnet deployment costing roughly $0.02 per day. The author reports five failed attempts, including a changed escrow denomination, a silent minimum-mint shortfall, and a deploy script that mishandled decimal bid strings. A provider with working containers but no outbound network access was also found and blocked, and the author's own mirror was found to be serving upstream failures as healthy responses.

Why Reliable Inventory Tracking Matters: Choosing Between Barcodes and RFID

Inventory tracking is more than counting stock; it requires accurately identifying, recording, and maintaining data. The article recommends defining a data model that captures items such as IDs, descriptions, expected locations, status, quantities, and last events. It advises logging each movement or change, such as receipts, transfers, issues, and returns, so that inconsistencies can be audited. Barcodes are presented as a suitable option for manual scanning, while RFID can read multiple tags without line of sight, with the choice depending on volume, speed, durability, and cost. The piece also stresses validating incoming events and guarding against duplicates and concurrent updates.

Smriti: an open-source, privacy-first sanctuary for preserving memories of loved ones

The developer built Smriti as a free, MIT-licensed platform to gather the scattered words, voices, and recollections of people who have died. Unlike commercial AI services that generate chatbot 'resurrections' and monetize grief, Smriti does not invent conversations or pretend the dead are alive. Its design emphasizes quiet, with no notifications, feeds, or login walls, and it offers a memory reel that pairs photos and stories with music. The project is hosted at a public sanctuary site and its source code is available on GitHub as part of Hacktoberfest 2026.
