India's Kaveri Engine Hits 48.5 kN Dry Thrust in Russia Trials

India's Kaveri dry engine has recorded a peak dry thrust of 48.5 kilonewtons during recent test trials conducted in Russia. The engine was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation as part of India's indigenous propulsion program. It is intended to power the Ghatak unmanned combat aerial vehicle. Flight evaluations were carried out aboard a modified Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft under varying conditions. The milestone marks significant progress in India's decades-long effort to develop a homegrown jet engine.
