Ancient dwarf galaxy collision may have tilted Milky Way over 90 degrees

Astronomers believe a massive collision between the Milky Way and a dwarf galaxy called the Gaia Sausage occurred roughly 10 billion years ago. Researchers from Durham University suggest the impact was so powerful that it flipped our galaxy's orientation by more than 90 degrees. The event predates the formation of our solar system by several billion years. The findings shed new light on the early structural history of the Milky Way.
