AI and Lasers Help Scientists Recreate Sounds of Jurassic Insects

Scientists have successfully recreated the calls of nine insect species that lived approximately 165 million years ago during the Jurassic period. The research combined fossilised wing specimens with laser measurements, computer modelling, and artificial intelligence to reconstruct the ancient sounds. Findings revealed that several of these prehistoric insects produced clear chirping sounds, while at least one species may have communicated using ultrasonic frequencies beyond human hearing range. The study offers rare acoustic insight into the ancient world, demonstrating how modern technology can unlock biological details preserved in fossils.
