US regulator probes Tesla Cybercabs over safety compliance a day after Austin launch

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into Tesla's newly introduced driverless Cybercab taxis. The probe focuses on whether the steering wheel-free vehicles comply with federal safety standards. The Cybercabs were launched in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, and the agency intends to scrutinize Tesla's self-certification process. The regulatory review mirrors similar safety scrutiny previously faced by rival autonomous vehicle company Zoox.
