Abandoned Australian coal mine transformed into 30-billion-litre recreational lake

Lake Kepwari, located near Collie in Western Australia, is a former coal mine that has been converted into a large recreational lake holding approximately 30 billion litres of water. The site was filled by diverting water from the Collie River South Branch into the expansive mining void. The transformation required years of careful planning, water management, and infrastructure development. The lake now serves as a public leisure destination offering swimming, boating, camping, and water sports.
