Aadhaar Biometric Authentication Mandatory for Subsidised LPG Refills from October

The Indian government has made Aadhaar biometric authentication compulsory for consumers seeking subsidised LPG refills, effective October. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry announced the new requirement as part of efforts to streamline subsidy distribution. As of September 19, approximately 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers had completed the biometric authentication process. This accounts for 89.9 per cent of the total active domestic LPG consumer base in the country. Consumers who have not yet completed authentication may need to do so to continue availing subsidised refills.
