12-Year-Old Gorilla Undergoes Possibly World's First Mastoidectomy of Its Kind

A 12-year-old gorilla named Mizani underwent a groundbreaking skull surgery after veterinarians found a severe infection had spread into the skull behind his ear. The procedure, known as a mastoidectomy, was carried out by a joint medical team. Experts believe this is the first recorded surgery of its kind performed on a gorilla. Mizani is currently recovering well following the pioneering operation.
